UNDP India appoints Bhumi Pednekar as the first SDG National Advocate in India

New Delhi :The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on Friday announced Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar as the National Advocate for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a National Advocate, Bhumi Pednekar will support UNDP’s efforts in India and work to raise awareness. Along with this, the work being done by UNDP for poverty alleviation in India will go among the people. Also, make a universal call to ensure peace and prosperity for all people by the year 2030. Bhumi Pednekar is associated with UNDP India from 2022 as Women and Work Champion. She has played an important role in economic empowerment of women and raising awareness on issues like gender-based violence and climate change.

New generation will get better world

On her new role, Bhumi Pednekar said that I am honored to be appointed as UNDP India’s National Advocate for SDGs. I believe that we give a better world to the generations to come. SDG will be very helpful in this. The SDGs provide a roadmap. This roadmap helps everyone build a more sustainable, equitable and prosperous future. I will raise awareness about SDGs and inspire people to join it.

Bhumi became India’s first SDG national advocate

Welcoming actress Bhumi Pednekar as National Advocate, UNDP India Resident Representative Shoko Noda said, “I am thrilled to welcome Bhumi Pednekar as the first National Advocate for SDGs. Bhumi Pednekar is a role model advocate for talent, gender equality and sustainability. I am sure that his advocacy will inspire many to act more justly and in this direction.

UNDP’s Inspiring India launch

Meanwhile, actress Bhumi Pednekar made her first appearance in her new role at the launch of the second edition of UNDP’s flagship magazine ‘Inspiring India’. The second edition of the magazine is a tribute to the extraordinary women of this country and their indomitable spirit to challenge the status quo, break stereotypes and drive change. On the occasion of the launch of the magazine, she said that I am happy to be a part of this magazine, to associate with influential women in business, sports and at the grassroots level.

Women can change the world: Bhumi

She said that women can change the world and it is time to harness that power. Personally, I love playing the roles of women who challenge the status quo in society and change gender discrimination into equality. I congratulate UNDP India for celebrating these changemakers who advocate for equality in their own ways.

President Draupadi Murmu special message

This edition of Inspiring India has a special message from Draupadi Murmu, Honorable President of India. Also included are businesswomen and founders of Nykaa, Falguni and Advaita Nair, para-badminton champion Manasi Joshi, Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri, ecofeminist and Padma Shri awardee Jamuna Tudu and UNDP India’s youth climate champion, businesswoman and founder of Prajakta Koli .
