An enhanced screen in this S version

The Xiaomi Poco M5s is an entry-level smartphone for whom appearances matter, as evidenced by this superb 6.43-inch AMOLED screen that is generally found on high-end models from Samsung or OnePlus. This is in Full HD + definition (2400 x 1080 pixels) and must be satisfied with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. On the other hand, the M5 has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, but is equipped with an LCD display.

At the rear, on a more refined photo module than on the M5, we have a main sensor of 64 Mpx (f / 1.8), an ultra wide-angle of 8 Mpx (f / 2.2), a sensor 2 MP macro (f / 2.4) as well as a 2 MP depth sensor (f / 2.4). The shots obtained are quite correct, the Poco M5s does not splurge, but we can salute its versatility and color precision in good light conditions.

A SoC cut out for multitasking and gaming

The Xiaomi Poco M5s runs on a MediaTek Helio G95 eight-core processor assisted by 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Although it is a bit slower than the M5’s processor, which features a Helio G99, it does the trick for simple tasks and even running a few 3D games at 60 FPS, on the other hand, it runs out of steam quickly for the multitasking. We have uneven performance depending on what you ask, but for a smartphone in the 200 euro bracket, it’s still okay.

Finally, we come to autonomy, often the strong point of entry-level smartphones, but above all the specialty of Xiaomi. This Poco M5s has a 5000 mAh battery that can last a whole day. On the one hand, it’s honorable, on the other it could have been better since the SoC Helio G95 consumes a lot, even in standby mode. You can at least count on a fast 33 W recharge which will replenish two thirds of your battery in 30 minutes flat.
