The controversy started around a guideline by the Food Safety and Quality Authority (FSSAI). Recently a guideline was issued by FSSAI to the milk producer cooperatives of Tamil Nadu. It says that instead of writing ‘Curd’ in English or ‘Thyir’ in Tamil, ‘Dahi’ in Hindi should be written on the yogurt packet.

It was around this directive of FSSAI that the accusations of imposing Hindi again began to emerge. An objection was raised by the Tamil Nadu Dairy Cooperative. The neighboring state of Karnataka also started objecting to this. They write directly to FSSAI. It sought permission to continue using regional languages ​​on yogurt packets. FSSAI is under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin strongly condemned the directive to use Hindi on their yogurt packets. He claimed that the directive was actually an attempt to force Hindi and alienate the people of the south.

Stalin also took to Twitter about this. He said, ‘This shameless attempt to impose Hindi has gone so far that it is being talked about writing Hindi on yogurt packets. Tamils ​​and Kannadas are being exiled in our own state. Those who are brazenly neglecting our mother tongue, are destined to be expelled from the soil of the south’.

Surprisingly, Stalin got Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on his side. Annamalai said that he has applied for the withdrawal of the guidelines. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave priority to regional languages. But FSSAI guidelines are against it. After that the guidelines were withdrawn.

Allegations of imposition of Hindi have been raised time and again

Earlier, Tamil Nadu has accused the central government of imposing Hindi. It has always opposed the imposition of Hindi in this state. Sarab Tara from those three decades in opposition to Hindi.
