AIADMK On the petitions filed by O. Panneerselvam seeking to ban the election of the General Secretary and canceling the resolutions passed in the General Assembly meeting. Chennai The High Court will decide today.

In the AIADMK general committee meeting held in Chennai on July 11 last year, resolutions were passed including bringing in a single leadership. The Supreme Court heard the case filed against this and ordered that the general body meeting held on July 11 will go ahead. At the same time, the judges said that the High Court should decide whether the resolutions passed in that meeting are valid.

Based on this, O. Panneerselvam, Vaithilingam, Manoj Pandian and J. C. D. Prabhakar filed petitions in the Madras High Court. In this case, AIADMK general secretary election was announced and petitions were filed only from Edappadi Palaniswami’s side. Following this, petitions were filed seeking a ban on the general secretary election.

Justice Kumaresh Babu, who heard this on the 19th, allowed the General Secretary to proceed with the election process. However, he banned the publication of election results. Following this, the judge heard the two cases together on the 22nd. Then, all parties presented their arguments for 7 hours.

Appearing for O. Panneerselvam, Advocate Guru Krishnakumar said that they are spreading false news that the posts of coordinator and co-coordinator have expired while the post of coordinator is valid till 2026. The OPS side said that dual leadership is necessary for the future interest of the party and this has been approved by the Election Commission. The lawyer noted.

O. Panneerselvam pointed out that while there is no rule in the party to remove the coordinator, action has been taken under the rules for taking disciplinary action against ordinary members.

A request was made for the court to intervene in the matter and stay the decisions. He also alleged that strict conditions have been imposed for the general secretary election just so that Edappadi Palaniswami can sit in the general secretary’s seat.

O. Panneerselvam explained that he is ready to contest for the post of General Secretary if the conditions for contesting the general secretary election are removed. Following this, Manoj Pandian, Vaithilingam and J. C. D. Prabhakar argued that they have left the party without asking them for an explanation.

Later, the lawyer appearing for Edappadi Palaniswami pointed out that the general body has the authority to take decisions at the highest level and only those who are bound by its decisions can remain in the party. As the Supreme Court has ruled that the general body meeting held on July 11 will go ahead, it was informed that the resolutions passed on that day will also go ahead.

He mentioned that if Jayalalitha’s rule is to be restored, it was decided in the general assembly meeting that the posts of coordinator and co-coordinator were canceled and the resolutions were passed. This has created a lot of anticipation.
